Johnossi are a rock duo from Sweden who have a big following there, but are mostly unknown in the States. Blood Jungle is the followup to their 2014 album Transitions (which I reviewed that summer and enjoyed quite a bit), and fifth album overall. This album is fairly mainstream sounding radio rock like you would expect to hear on a commercial “alternative” station, but they put a lot of power and passion into it. Lead singer John Engelbert provides powerful vocals and sounds a little bit like Ozzy Osbourne. The final song “Got Your Gun” is the strongest track overall and reminds me of what I liked about their last album, but even that song suffers from a stuttering hook in the verses that’s kind of annoying. If this sounds like your kind of music then go for it, but I would recommend Transitions or one of their earlier albums first.
