Afro Latin Vintage Orchestra – Pulsion (Ubiquity)

Often dark, dramatic, psychedelic, & heavily jazz-tinged spacy music with African & Latin rhythms, from an 8-member collective based in Paris, France & their musical friends, led by percussionist Masta Conga. Edgy, experimental, innovative, & truly worthy! Check it out on Bandcamp

ANTH: Brazil – Brasil Do Brazil (Ubiquity)

A diverse, premium collection of rockin’ samba, bumpin’ batucada, & other Brazilian flavors, lovingly re-worked by top producers like Bosq of Whiskey Barons, Shawn Lee, & John Beltran (my fav), not to mention major contributions by Tita Lima. Many, many great tracks!

Ikebe Shakedown – Stone By Stone (Ubiquity)

At last a second CD from this funky 7-piece throwback band with a tight horn section & arrangements infused with Afrobeat. Self-produced at Daptone Studios in Brooklyn, this one is more polished and nuanced than their last CD. Well worth spinning! Sample track here

Bosq from Whiskey Barons – Bosq Y Orquesta De Madera (Ubiquity)

Nice collection of Afrobeat, Afro-Latin and related styles of danceable tunes, featuring producer and multi-instrumentalist Ben Wood (Bosq) on most instruments, plus session players & guest vocalists on nearly every track, including Kaleta from Benin/Nigeria & Tita Lima from Brazil.  Fans of Afro-fusion will find much to like here. Here’s a free Tita Lima (Brazilian) […]

From what I can gather this was recorded in 1967 and 1st released a few years later.  After years as a rarity it has […]
