Cauchemar– Rosa Mystica
Release date: 2022May16
Label: Temple of Mystery
Rating: 5/5
Cauchemar hail from Montreal, Quebec. I reviewed their last release from 2016, Chapele Ardente and it blew me out of the water at the time. They’ve only gotten a hell lot better since. Rosa Mystica was recorded at No Man’s Land studio in Gatineau, QC. Jour De Colère kicks it off an up-tempo feel mated to an old-school doom structure that reminds me a little of Candlemass. Danger De Nuit reminds me a hell lot of early Ozzy solo due to the insane pace and amazing vocals. Rosa Mystica plods magnificently with hooks that make me bang my head a little, giving way to a seamless melodic transition. Volcan is another epic burner with layered riffs that are just delicious. La Sorcière blows the rest of the tracks out when it picks up in speed, driving home the somberness of this album. There are no gimmicks here, only heart and soul.
