Gojira, the socially-conscious metal giants, have released the much-anticipated Fortitude. The opening track, Born for One Thing, is absolutely obliterating. The grooves stand out. Amazonia, if you didn’t guess by the song title, takes a strong stance against the destruction of the Amazon rainforest and the killing of life living in there. Another World is classic Gojira, with drilling technicality and big sing-along hooks. The Chant is politically charged and examines the plight of refugee children from Tibet who fled their homeland in an attempt to preserve their culture following China’s invasion of the country in 1949. Check out the riffage on Grind. It’s outright positive and a rally cry to persevere through whatever life throws at you.
