Fleet Foxes – Shore

Shores, Fleet Foxes fourth album, demonstrates the progression and maturity of a songwriter. After returning from a long hiatus with brooding and confrontational Crack-Up, Shores is a wall of sound full of grace. The album opens with several tracks that are likely to get stuck in your head. Sunblind is among the most jubilant entries in the band’s catalog. Can I Believe You? is anthemic, full of massed choruses as well as the thrum and thump we all pay for. Robin Pecknold’s voice is so wonderfully crisp throughout. On A Long Way Past The Past he practically struts. Pecknold’s vocals soar and horns and strings pop in and out of the arrangement, tying everything together in a beautiful bow. “Going-To-The-Sun Road strikes a more contemplative chord and sweeps along on harpsichord, horns and acoustic guitars and the title track, Shore, closes the album on a more sedated note.
