NY singer/songwriter Anna Shoemaker’s new single “Funny” is a grooving and moody pop track about turbulent relationships and the difficulties of love. Shoemaker got her start as a Soundcloud sensation when her mashup of Kendrick Lamar’s “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” and Chance The Rapper’s “Cocoa Butter Kisses” went viral; since then she has released a number of singles, an EP, and now “Funny.” This single is a blend of smooth and chilled-out moods that accentuate her lower vocal register, where steady rhythm sections, spacey chorus samples, and thumping percussion drives work together to push the somber but funky sound. “Funny” puts Shoemaker’s songwriting ability on full display, showcasing her sullen yet groovy sound.
