Counterparts – Nothing Left to Love

Release date: November 1, 2019
Label: Pure Noise Records

In a genre full of narcissistic machismo and chest-pounding, Counterparts sets themselves apart from the pack with introspective looks at human faults and truth. That’s not to say that the sound is soft. The eagerly anticipated Nothing Left to Love  is full of innovative plays on hardcore and seethes with rage. Wings Of Nightmares oscillates between hardcore aggression and soaring, melodic hooks and the breakdown at the end will snap your neck. The killer hardcore and harmonies continue on Paradise and Plagues. You may play this one on repeat for a few hours. It’s super heavy and hits hard in all the right places. Separate Wounds begins by setting the mood with brooding arpeggios. Having set the mood, they then proceed to crush you with sonic violence. Counterparts continues to thrill on Nothing Left to Love. Though certainly not genre-bending, there’s something to be said for intense and skilled execution.

Play: 2, 3, & 5
