If you’ve been out there searching for a new modern Jazz, R&B and Soul record that maintains a vintage quality feel, then look no further.
Without a doubt, Dee Dee Bridgewater is a jazz vocal powerhouse, and her latest record, Memphis… Yes, I’m Ready, honors the legacies of many of our favorite jazz, blues and soul favorites, including B.B. King, Al Green, Otis Redding, Elvis, all the way to Ann Peebles.. You should expect a great deal of interesting contrasts that make you tilt your head and make your eyes squint. It’s very interesting to hear these classics with a different kind of spin.
This album is Dee Dee’s tribute to her Memphis roots, and was recorded at Memphis’ historic Royal Studios, home of Producer Willie Mitchell. Bridgewater aimed to recapture the magic, inspiration, and joy that “Soulsville” has brought to countless lives around the world. Grammy Award-winning musician Kirk Whalum, alongside Grammy Award-winning Engineer Lawrence “Boo” Mitchell co-produced the whole project. From the studio musicians, to the acoustic vibe of the entire album, the sonic quality is masterfully crafted.
The 13-track project kicks off with an appetizing rendition of Barbara Mason’s ‘Yes I’m Ready,’ and it takes takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotional, dynamic ups and downs, before eventually landing on a satisfying, soul-soothing Gospel performance, leaving you feeling nothing short of complete.
