Despite the somewhat confusing name change that Alex G went through right before the release of this record, all of this confusion quickly ignored with the release of this record and its subsequent greatness. This record highlights the power that soft and melodic folk music can provide, but this record is not strictly a by the numbers folk inspired album. Though most follows these cues, there are a few strange cuts on here which pull heavily from industrial and noise music, and there are even hints of hip-hop thrown in as well. This variation is what keeps the album so interesting, and shows the creativity that Alex G is capable of, while still making a solid record in the process.
