Sometimes, when a band has been around for over 20 years, their sound can get stale and in trying to keep their music relevant in the modern music scene, a band can cause their downfall to be even more swift. This is not the case however for long time indie rockers Spoon. They are one of the few bands that are not only still relevant after so many years, but are also innovating on their traditional indie rock style while staying true for their long time fan base. On this release, they manage to smoothly layer in new electronic sounds, a risk that ultimately pays off by giving their songs more texture and keeping their sound fresh while maintaining what made them so good to begin with. Hot Thoughts is simple; it’s indie rock with some cool electronic flavor, but that doesn’t stop it from being a great record, and shows the musical experience that Spoon have gathered over the years.
