Artists signed to Polyvinyl Records cover some of their labelmates’ most well known songs. It’s an interesting concept considering Polyvinyl includes a wide variety of different artists on their roster, from the 90’s emo of Braid and American Football to Deerhoof and Of Montreal to more electronic based acts like Psychic Twin and Pillar Point. Deerhoof contribute an energetic cover of Xiu Xiu’s “Say Hi” in the style of White Reaper, who in turn cover Deerhoof’s “Exit Only”. Owen’s stripped down cover of Rainer Maria’s “Ears Ring” gives more emotional weight to that song’s strange lyrics. Elsewhere, you have Braid covering Alvvays, The Dodos covering American Football, and Psychic Twin covering of STRFKR’s “While I’m Alive” (those two bands just played Higher Ground together). Fun album – give it a listen!
