On their 6th LP, modern post-rock icons Explosions in the Sky are back, and as grandiose as ever. I have been waiting for these guys to release an album as epic as their 2003 release “The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place,” and this album is definitely up there in terms of quality. On first listen “The Wilderness” sounds almost like a whisper but the more you dig into it, all of the details grow and resonate. It’s sort of like hiking up Mt. Mansfield, but that moment right where you go from being in the shade to being out and the open, and viewing how beautiful Vermont is. This album is a similar experience.
