Jeremy Pelt – #Jiveculture (HighNote)

Seventh album on HighNote features 40 year-old trumpeter/composer leading quartet anchored by first-time collaborator, bassist/composer Ron Carter (who wrote one pivotal tune here — Einbahnstrasse) with usual suspects Billy Drummond on drums and Danny Grissett on piano.  Album is organized under headings Part I and Part II, the second half consisting of four Pelt originals evoking 1960’s Miles Davis Quintet (of which Carter was part).  Pelt brings his distinct warm-blooded, focused intensity to bear throughout.  The ‘jive’ in the title is a reclamation of the term,  originally a playful reference to rhythm, dance and good times.
