D’Angelo and the Vanguard – Black Messiah

After a 14 year hiatus, D’Angelo is back with the wonderful Black Messiah. D and the Vanguard combine rock, funk, and soul with a retro, analog production sound. The feel of the album is pleasantly unpredictable with floating horns and layered vocals drifting in and out of musical sequences. D’Angelo’s smooth falsetto is as soulful as ever and he shows great versatility with the guitar. Fantastic album.
