Brothertiger is the solo project of John Jagos. His sophomore album Future Splendors is full of 80’s synth pop mixed with chillwave (think Washed Out’s earlier work). Features washes of synths, some guitar, and nice melodies. Lo-fi, with minimal percussion. The first two tracks “Up From Below” and “In Mind” have great hooks. “Further On” brings on Laura Ornella to take over lead vocals while Jagos provides backing vocals and is one of the more successful songs on the album. Brothertiger isn’t on the level of similar artists like Washed Out or Toro Y Moi – this music doesn’t bring the energy that other artists such as Tanlines bring to their synthpop. Still, this album is worth checking out if you are a fan of this kind of music.
