La Dispute – Rooms of the House

Often described as “screamo,” La Dispute has a reputation to maintain, or, recreate. In actuality, the band falls more into the post-hardcore description, alongside the likes of other heavy-sounding bands like Touche Amore and Pianos Become Teeth. While the screaming may be abrasive for some, its juxtaposition with low-key speak-singing (as in #3, “Woman”) presents a harmonious combination of sounds. Every song is an intricate display of emotive songwriting of which there is no doubt to its effective storytelling.
