Davidge-Slo Light

Slo Light is the debut album for artist Davige but this is far from his first foray into the music business. He was part of the UK group DNA (the group who famously remixed Suzanne Vega’s Tom’s Diner), co-produced several Massive Attack albums and composed the soundtrack to Halo 4 which became the highest charting video game soundtrack to date. This album is reminiscent of Massive Attack’s Heligoland which is Trip Hop but with a very dark streak running through it. There is also a mix of IDM, Dark Techno, and Dark Ambient threaded into the tracks intensifying the dark grittiness of the album. A few mellow tracks temper the album and create good transitions between the more hard-edged tracks. My only criticism would be that some of the tracks have a soundtrack feel to them (which is what he does) and feel a little shallow. Other than that, this is an excellent album that has some grittiness but also has a sophisticated sleekness as well.
