Blood Drive is the first album in five years from southern metal band ASG. Their music is sludgy yet very melodic and accessible without being mainstream. This album is less aggressive and slower than their previous releases, but is full of crunchy, crushing guitar riffs that will appeal to fans of their previous work. The opening trio of songs, “Avalanche”, “Blood Drive” and “Day’s Work” set the tone for the album, while the next two songs “Scrappy’s Trip” and “Castlestorm” pick up the tempo, and the middle part of the album is more mellow (“Blues For Bama” through the opening of “Children’s Music”). Not my favorite album from ASG but still very good. This is a band that deserves to be more popular than they are so you should give them a listen.
