BRATTLEBORO, VT freak-folksters:
Listeners familiar with the jamborees of Happy Jawbone Family Band’s tape-collecting comp Tastes the Broom will be at least a little surprised by “Everybody Knows about Daddy,” which renders their dumb glee in something like hi-fi. Recorded with Woods‘ Jarvis Taverniere, “Daddy”– from the band’s forthcoming self-titled LP, is rooted in a lineage that stretches from Pink Floyd’s Syd Barrett through Television Personalities, Half Japanese and Robyn Hitchcock: Jangle-pop surrealists who combat sense with nonsense and tend to think the shortest distance between two points is a long, loopy line.
