Big Deal – “june gloom”

Following their 2011 critically praised Lights Out, London duo Big Deal (aka Kacey Underwood and Alice Costelloe) are back with June Gloom. Though connecting with audiences through the sonic and lyrical vulnerability of earlier releases, their new album shows the band aiming to create a more expansive sound by enlisting the help of a full band in the studio. The new songs also feature more direct and personal songwriting from the duo, fusing noisy grunge pop with tales of summer and unrequited love. Tracks like “In Your Car” with driving basslines, in-your-face drums and signature he-said/she-said vocals show the growing confidence of the band, while finale “Close Your Eyes” showcases the intimate songwriting the band is known for created within a newfound fuzz-pop environment.
